Purpose: Is to utilize the prototypes of love, lust, compassionate love and true; and see how people hear particular words or phrases and define them under the above prototypes according to what they believe it is associated with by the understanding of an individual. Although Brogaard clarify that “most items belong to more than one category and, sometime items do not clearly belong to a category or clearly not belong to the category” (167). Determining rather an emotion would have the same effect on you hearing the words or phrases versus visually seeing the words or phrases being spoken.

Method: By using famous movie quotes such as, “I love you very much, probably more than anybody could love another person” from 50 First Dates; “Nobody puts Baby in a corner” from Dirty Dancing; “Of all the gin joints, in all the towns, in all the world, she had to walk into mine” from Casablanca; “You have bewitched me, body and soul, and I love, I love, I love you. I never wish to be parted from you this day on” from Pride and Prejudice; and “You should be kissed, and often, and by someone who knows how” from Gone with the Wind. I would like to test and pay attention to how individuals categorize these into the particular prototypes.

True love was ranked the highest when it came to Pride and Prejudice famous quote. Because of the expression of love within the quotes, it helped sway the individuals to lean towards true love. Lust prototype was the second highest in the aspect of Dirty Dancing, Casablanca and Gone with the Wind quotes. Love was somewhere in the middle across all five famous sayings. And last, but not least, is compassionate love, which was ranked the lowest with 50 First Dates
