Ego In Ayn Rand's Anthem

Author Ayn Rand takes her own philosophy to define the term ‘ego’ in the story of Anthem in which she describes as self-importance and self-esteem, and she constructs the story around these principles. The main character Equality 7-2521 has a strong side of ego, however, other characters such as Liberty 5-3000 and International 4-8818 have their own ego deep inside their mind that they are not aware of. For example, when Equality is working as a street sweeper with International, they recognize each other as “friends”, and it is a great crime because no men can “love any among men and all men are [their] friends” (Rand 30). When Equality discovers the hole from the Unmentionable Time, International chooses not to tell anyone about this because
