Moreover, Abigail charges Elizabeth Proctor with witchcraft because she was stabbed in the stomach with a need while sitting at the dinner table. Abigail was lying because she only wanted Elizabeth locked up or hanged, so she could have John Proctor for herself. The whole time in court Abigail smiles and is pleased with the rulings; until Elizabeth turns out to be pregnant and will only sit in jail until the baby is born. Then, John Proctor confesses to committing lechery with Abigail because he was determined to prove that Abigail was only doing this for vengeance.
