This book takes place in a fictional world known as Alagaesia around the medieval times. Eragon, the main character, was born and raised in a small town called Carvahall with his uncle, Garrow, and cousin, Roran. For most of the story, Eragon and his friend, Brim, travel through Alagaesia with Eragon’s dragon, Saphira.

The plot of this book is Eragon finds a stone he describes as having a “flawless surface” and is “dark blue, except for thin veins of white that spiderwebbed” across the surface (page 7). This stone turns out to be a dragon egg that hatches after a few days. After a couple months, Saphira is discovered by the country’s king and he has his men sent out to go kill the two of them.
