America is constantly changing and there’s no stopping it. Being American is different for everyone, depending on your color, gender and social class. Although it is different for everyone, we all have one thing in common and it’s the fact that to be American you need to be able to accept and adapt to change. The “American Dream” is always changing, especially as time goes on, society changes and new issues arise. Being American is like Gatsby chasing the green light. The green light was a symbol of the goal Gatsby wanted to reach, which was Daisy, his “true love”. As soon as Gatsby reached the green light and fulfilled the need of Daisy, the green light died and he realized Daisy wasn't right for him after all. He then needed to find a different thing to strive for. His green light was forever changing and he needed to adapt to the change in order to succeed. For example, in the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, it really shows the old America and how racism was very intense. Whites always had the power. Huck, a southern white boy, meets Jim, a black runaway slave, and they go on an adventure for freedom for the both of them. Huck constantly goes against everything he was taught as being a white boy. He adapted to the situation he was in and he accepted his black peer for who he was. America has changed a lot over the centuries.
