The film “A Class Divided” is about Jane Elliot, a third grade teacher, who taught her kids about discrimination through a little experiment. After Martin Luther King Jr died, she decided that it was time to teach her kids, visually, about discrimination. This film was filmed during the third year she did this experiment. At first, Jane divided her class between the blue eyes and brown eyes; the blue eyes being more superior to the brown eyes. The next day it was the opposite; the brown eyes being more superior to the blue eyes. About 15 years later, she did this experiment again, but with adults. The experiment was a success with both groups and each person from this experiment took something out of it. That something being not to discriminate against other human beings. Jane’s experiment became widely known and other teachers, students and correctional officers have been doing it. The main theme of “A Class Divided” is not to judge someone based on their skin color, or anything honestly. Everyone, at least once or twice in their life, has experienced discrimination. During that time, the white people would discriminate any race that wasn’t their race. Maybe they did it because of peer pressure. Fourteen years after the experiment, she asked her former students why they discriminated against their classmates. One student said because whatever pint up hostility or aggression you had against someone, you had the chance to get it all out during that experiment. I was confused. I didn’t understand what “pint up hostility or aggression” they had towards the brown eye people. I still don’t understand why white people treated black people the way they did.
