According to the New Jersey Department of Health, about 10% of children living with current asthma has a gap in insurance during the year or no health insurance at all. These kids are less likely to receive medical care and more likely to have a higher risk of asthmas and poor health status in general. This may increase their parent’s financial burden leading to poor environmental (housing) and living conditions. Furthermore, children with asthma in New Jersey are surrounded with poor environmental conditions (housing) and environmental exposure in general due to industrial pollution. This shows that these children are not getting the quality health care that they are supposed to get due to a co-payment or a bill payment that comes in. This insurance may not pay for all the quality care that they need. This may also affect their intake of medication to reduce the risk of the disease since most of them take the medication on everyday schedule which means more medication and high cost. Kids with asthma in New Jersey are also surrounded with issues surrounding birth such as low birth weight that are less than 5.5 pounds, breastfeeding, and complications of pregnancy. About nearly half of the children that has current asthma are underweight or normal which may be as a result of low household income meaning poor living conditions which leads to complications of pregnancy. Also, about one-quarter of kids with asthma were obese which comes as a result of low income and lifestyle choices. The state of New Jersey must implement the quality care for service to this group of people to reduce the risk of
