There are many reasons as to why it seems to be such a pervasive achievement gap between ethnicities in the United States. Some reasons may be due to socio-economic status, grade point average, race/ethnicity status, and dropout rates. I feel like you can only go as far as you have been exposed to. Most of the time the low-income families are the minorities and most of these families live in poor neighborhoods which leads to poor public schools. Many of these public school do not have the right equipment or technology to properly teach these students, and as a result students are not properly taught the information required to prepare for the standardized exams which measures all students on the same level. Because of these reasons the gap continues to grow stronger. I feel like standardized test does not properly evaluate what you have learned in your school and what you know. From personal experience when I was in high school I used to get straight A’s all year round and I graduated with a 4.2 GPA. I am a very smart and intelligent girl that can comprehend the material given to me once taught. But I hated the SAT because nothing that I was taught in my school was on the exam. I was being tested on what I was not taught in school so how did you expect me to do well. Colleges will use these exams like the SAT to measure how smart you are and I felt like that was a horrible representation of my intelligence. I took the test several times and studied the best that I could but I did not do well. We cannot judge every student on the same plan field if we are not exposed to the same information at
