One of the most frequently asked questions in our country seem to be should minimum wage be raised or should it be lowered or eliminated altogether. Minimum wage is the lowest rate employees may legally pay for an hour of labor. The United States has a minimum wage law to guarantee minimum hourly wages and to prevent the exploitation of the workers and provide unskilled and part-time workers with a wage floor. People have argued that the minimum wage has become less of a safety net for primary earners in poor families rather than a floor for the wages of a teenager or other secondary earners from higher income families. Reasons that some cannot be explained but women have complained that it is not right for this to be happening and most people agree with that. Researcher Rajesh D Nayak reported that “women now days are the main providers for their families and have been majorly increasing due to the rise in runaway fathers in the past years.” With this being said it's not fair to the mothers that have gotten left on their own for them to be the primary caretaker for their children and have their children to rely them. For the single women that have children to take care of on their own is a big responsibility. Not to mention the fees they have to pay for their children to get a good education, daycare, medical, and other costly expenses children need. Which brings the point across to the government that we need to step it up a bit and raise the wages nation wide. Researchers show that six out of ten people that work for the minimum wage are women which comes to show that a single family home only makes fifteen thousand a year.
