Shawshank Redemption The role of redemption in the book is to relief Aksyonov himself from the past, but the role of redemption in the movie is to not only save Andy from being institutionalizing in the dark prison, but also save others and plant hope in their heart. In God See The Truth, But Wait, the God is Aksyonov’s redemption and he place his future on the God. After he accused to murder he did not take, and was misunderstood by his wife, Aksyonov “abandoned all hope and all he did was pray to God”. Without any hope of freedom, Aksyonov became very religious. Instead of appeal to the court, Aksyonov believed that “It is to Him (the God) alone I must appeal”. Even he did not do anything bad, Aksyonov felt guilty. In his mind, the God is the only Judge to make the decision and only God can make him feel better and get “mercy”. Unlike Aksyonov, hope of freedom deeply rooted in Andy’s spirit and saved him from be institutionalizing. His yearn for freedom not only became his own redemption but also gave hope to others, especially Red. Andy is Red’s “Belief”. From Andy, Red first experience the felt of freedom and realized the important to keep hope in heart. Andy smiles after playing the Le Nozze di Figaro, because he knew he was doing something meaningful: spreading the hope for good thing. Andy success, “every last man is Shawshank felt free.” Andy was Red’s redemption. Andy taught Red that “hope can set you free.” After being an institutional man for 40 years, just like Brooks, Red cannot get used to the life outside prison. It is Andy used a letter save Red’s life. In the letter Andy wrote: Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever
