“Occasionally, healthcare professionals may encounter individuals whose spiritual practices are highly questionable or discomforting to witness” (Catalano, 2015). Our patient is a Christian Scientist, they believe that prayer is the first line of treatment, reject medical treatment but believe on spiritual healing. Patient reject the surgery, refused the pain medication and request a Christian Science doctors to take care of him. And the surgeon still insist on continue with his plan of surgery and the nurse tried really hard to convince the patient to let the surgeon operates that will solve the problem. Both healthcare provider stress the patient to fall in spiritual distress “inability to participate in preferred religious practices, seeking spiritual help, concerns about the ethics of prescribed medical regimens” (Catalano, J., 2015). Our role has a nurse is to care for the patient holistically and care for the entire essence of the patient, spirituality is one of them. …show more content…
Caring for people who are sick does not give us a privilege to decide for them, we have to be sensitive for their culture, religion and beliefs. Nurse needs to consider patient as a holistic concept, for us to make the patient feel better we have to focus on things that can be minimal for us but huge for them. It is important to assess careful the patient this way we know what kind of foods they like in particular, what is they religious, any advance directives in line, how they learn a concept, what is their prefer language. Knowing about the patient ins and outs eliminate rooms for mistake. Remember we are here for the patient and they are in center of our care, it is not about us but the patient needs in
