Bully Bully is a form of violence that millions of school-age children experience every day. It is far too common, not only among children but in adults as well. If people understand the kind of effects it has on children and their families the issue would be taken much more seriously. The more awareness that is created about this recurring and overlooked issue, the more actions can be taken to prevent it. The film Bully uses logos, pathos, and ethos to effectively persuade the audience that bullying is a common form of violence that goes unnoticed, and has serious repercussions. There is no doubt that bullying is an overlooked issue children face in our society. The documentary Bully uses logos to back this up. Lee Hirsch wants everyone to understand the serious consequences of bullying and the effects it has on the individual. In the film, you see firsthand the demeaning manner and hatred expressed by some students to other classmates. At one point everyone involved in making the film felt it was necessary to stop filming and immediately inform 12-year-old Alex’s parent about the abuse he was enduring at school. He even has a further understanding on this issue because he himself was bullied while in school. After he got into filmmaking he decided he wanted to put his experience with bullying to use. He decided he wanted to be the voice for all victimized children. Thus, how the documentary Bully was made. By his word choices and serious tone, he has set in the movie you can tell this is something that is important to him. The stories that were filmed throughout this documentary let the viewer know that this is a real issue that children are affected by daily.
