The movie “Radio” is based on a true story about an African American man who has a mental disability. Coach Jones (Ed Harris) spots Radio (Cuba Gooding Jr.) wandering around his field during one of his football practices. Coach Jones (Ed Harris) takes Radio (Cuba Gooding Jr.) “under his wing”. Many people are appalled by this because they are afraid of this man walking and talking to their children not known how kindhearted and sweet Radio is. In the beginning of the movie, you could tell that the character Radio was being discriminated among others in his town.
Initially you are able to see discrimination in the movie and the other characters feelings towards Radio. An example would be, Radio is walking around with his shopping cart town down. As he passes by a mother and her daughter, the mother instantly pulls her daughter, that looks to be about 5 years old, away from Radio afraid that Radio might do something bad or harm her child.

Many people could argue that all the discrimination that was put upon Radio would be because he is black but that is a false statement. I believe that it also had to do with his mental disability. As you can see, this is shown when the football players convinced Radio to walk into the girls bathroom not knowing it was not the right thing to do. Discrimination is a current problem in this world and we should not just let it happen too innocent kind hearted men and women. I think that this film helped open some people eyes. Even though this film was based on a disabled black man, this is also happening to other races, not just the african Americans. Radio may look and talk differently but he feels the same way everyone else does and he just wants to feel included into things. He was constantly harassed by many people and someone was considerate enough to talk him under his wing even at his hardest
