Do you know what really goes into the making of our school meals? Sure most of us students take for granted the piles of hot food served up everyday. We do not see the tired cafeteria workers making biscuits at five in the morning, much less the administrators that spend hours budgeting out how much money we need to stay fed. Most students don't know not to choose unhealthy foods, or that the foods they eat are effecting their performances. That is why we need you, as our principle, to actively make a change for the better in our school. With so much work being put into our food why not make it beneficial to students and staff alike? Resulting in a fast, often obnoxious, energy rush. The rush itself may only last half an hour after which kids often crash. When students eat more complex carbohydrates and proteins they have longer lasting energy and concentration. In return when students can concentrate and work more efficiently their performances and overall grades go up. The level of sugar and carbohydrates in school meals needs to go down and in doing so we could see as much as a 5% boost in grades. When you ingest refined sugars, there is a large chance your not only taking in an unhealthy amount of sugar, but also large amounts of artificial additives and preservatives. The European Union has banned over one thousand chemicals from processed foods. In the United States only fifty of these harmful chemicals are outlawed. In recent years food corporations have been adding more and more artificial flavors and colors to our foods, because this is a relatively new trend we do not yet know the long term effects of the consumption of these foods. If our school system were to eliminate foods high in artificial ingredients we would be preventing future health issues related to fake foods. Many children in our school system rely on the meals
