Fresh Fruit, Broken Bodies by Seth M. Holmes was an amazing read . After this book I can appreciate migrate (immigrants) farmers and how they there travel to get to American to make a better life . But is it a better life when your body can't stand the pain from working. There two labor position the standing and the kneeling. Standing position worker will stand throughout the day walking around overseeing the kneeling worker that will remain on the knees until there shift is over . The kneeler feel less then the Standers.Long hours and little pay just to make a better living for themselves and Family members back home. The crossing of the broader alone is dangerous,yet many of them do it to survive. Race was huge thing in the book as well especially towards the indigenous Oaxacans being segregated into different part of the farm. Referring to them as regular Mexican or traditional Mexican also Tejanos or Chicanos .Chapter 6 also spoke about their living conditions again. " the working and living conditions of migrants farmworkers are hidden from public view and justified by assumptions about what kinds of housing and jobs different people deserve "(180, Holmes) Americans work hard for what they want , the farmworkers work day and night and still can't afford a decent place to live without shacking up with 15 other people and using one bathroom and yet here still suffering. The Tanaka people where over being used and abused they went on strike. On page 178 and 179 shows pictures of the strikes photos taken by Rob Mercatante on the Tanaka Brothers farm. After being used they took a stand together, to work against the company for firing them because of the product weigh not hitting the daily limit.We also have to understand that without these imgranmt workers , we would have less fruit
