The Millennial generation and generation Y have experienced something unlike anything else any other generation has experienced so far; they have had technology around since the day they were born. Not just regular technology, but technology that includes social media, video games unlike any experiences anyone had seen and internet capabilities that were unheard of in the 90s. Although technology has benefitted us in numerous ways, it has also hindered us in our social capabilities and is now limiting the motor skills that kids are supposed to learn when growing up. “Generational stereotypes are slowly being debunked, but anecdotal evidence continues to be bantered around the internet, and used to make decisions on how to manage and train generation …show more content…
While many studies show that technology is very negatively affecting this generation, there are also studies showing that generation heavily helps our generation and may be improving our learning skills. To be specific, generation Y is the people who are born from 1977-2007. There were three very important studies and the categories involved in them were, information and communication are used more in generation Y, the increased immersion in technology has influenced the way Gen Y learns and behaves, specifically by physical change of the brain, and the increased use of technology has created distinct characteristics amongst Gen Y and resulted in distinct learning preferences, especially for the young. In a recent study sixty-five percent of people asked would rather lose their mode of transportation than their phone or devices. Just think how easy some of the tasks would be for the historians of the past if they had the ability to harness the power of technology and Internet that this generation possesses. Picture how simple Cesar Chavez’s protests would be if he had the ability to reach millions of people via internet to get him to join him, or how different slavery would have been viewed if people all saw the terrible events of it online and could voice their opinion about it to the people of the south. The fact that this generation has the ability to do this is absolutely unfathomable. With a simple tweet or Facebook post, someday some person could legitimately make a change in the world, and in fact some people have
