Witchcraft or Not?
Setting: Salem Massachusetts, 1692. A man, Giles Corey, has been accused of committing Witchcraft.
Speaker: All rise, Honorable Judge Thomas Marshall presiding. Please be seated.
Judge Marshall: Good morning, ladies and gentleman. Calling the case of the People of Salem v. Giles Corey. Are both sides ready to proceed?
Giles Corey: Yes, your honor.
John Murphy (lawyer for the people of Salem): Yes, your honor.
Judge Marshall: Mr. Murphy, the floor is yours.
John Murphy: People of the jury, we are here today to discuss the accusations that have been placed on Giles Corey on the count of witchcraft at the highest degree. Late last Tuesday, Giles Corey was said to be unable to pray. We all understand that this is a prime example of a witch. No matter how hard they try they just can’t do it.
