Growing up in a small town has been one of the most important components of my life. It must sound like a cliché, and I can't blame you if that's your impression, but I can confidently say, wholeheartedly, that I grew up in the best place in the world. Every person should have the opportunity to live somewhere as safe, and peaceful, and supportive, because it holds some of the greatest experiences in life. There's no other place I'd rather help out with the church suppers, the Christmas caroling, cheering on sports teams, festivals and more. There are millions of cities, towns, neighborhoods and streets, in the world, but nothing can quite replicate what it's like to grow up in a small town. Having the privilege to develop as a person in such a wonderful, tightly-knit community, is truly something to be grateful for. I've had the privilege in life to travel, to see the world outside the farm fences and town lines. Unsophisticated or petty, if you're unfamiliar with the word, let me enlighten you, petty means of little importance. I think it's safe for me to speak on account of all small towns and say that we are important, and we do matter.
