Gun violence and drug One of the major problems in the United States of America is gun violence. Gun violence is a leading cause of premature death in the U.S. Guns kill almost 30,000 people and cause 60,000 injuries each year. As a longtime advocate for violence prevention policies, APHA recognizes a comprehensive public health approach to addressing this growing crisis is necessary. Gun violence has caused problems on different levels within local communities and in political communities. It is hard to say in which areas of the U.S. improvements have been made. Another major problem in the Unites States of America is Drugs. Alcohol is a form of drug use that results in addiction for millions. Problems that alcohol causes are very widely known, yet any regulation for the drug is only for people under the age of 21. After Prohibition failed miserably, the idea of controlled alcohol seemed ridiculous. This too is true for many of today's modern drugs. Stiff penalties and laws have made little progress in the ongoing war on drugs. The main types of drugs in circulation today are heroin, crack, cocaine, amphetamines, barbiturates, and marijuana. The three most widely used drugs are heroin, crack cocaine and marijuana. The statistics show that 9.3 percent of people who gets involved in the drug are 12 or older. Current alcohol use by this age group declined from 28.8 to 22.7 percent between 2002 and 2013, while binge drinking declined from 19.3 to 14.2 percent and the rate of heavy drinking went from 6.2 to 3.7 percent.In the meantime, people continue to hope for a better future with fewer people consuming Drugs.
