The Han dynasty and the Roman Empire were both civilizations that thrived because of technological advances. Their societies were flourishing with new innovative ways of improving. Inventions such as aqueducts, irrigation systems and better tools for craftsmanship were utilized to benefit those societies. However, there were people in both societies that opposed this change.

The utilization of water irrigation in the Han dynasty and the Roman Empire demonstrates how these societies improved. For example, document #1 is about the importance of waterways. The attitude conveyed in the document was that technology is essential to the empire. Document 4 explains the successes of Han Dynasty emperor,Tu Shih, one of them being the creation of a water powered blowing engine. Shih’s invention was utilized extensively in China by its citizens. Document 8 is from Frontus, a Roman general and water commissioner for Rome. Frontus mentioned how effective the aqueducts were becoming in Rome. According to Frontus, “The abundance of water is sufficient not only for public and private uses and applications but truly even for pleasure.” It it evident that these documents show how water irrigation and aqueducts were being utilized in the Han Dynasty and Roman Empire.
