Hardships In Jamestown

In Jamestown, they faced many hardships. One of the reasons was that they chose a swampy spot which had unsanitary water and caused many diseases. Another reason was that many of the settlers were well educated people and never had to do hard work. Instead of planting crops for food, they spent time searching for gold and silver. Also, instead of making proper houses to live in, they made tents. Due to these unwise decision, they didn’t have enough food to live off of and grew week. More than half of the population died from malaria, pneumonia, dentistry, malnutrition. By the beginning of the next year, only 39 still lived.
