Harriet Tubman was a great hero in American history. she was known for her kindness and for the conducting of the underground railroad. where she helped a lot of slaves escape. and she helped a lot of slaves become free because she didn't want to be under a law where she can't do anything she wants and has to follow very strict laws and after her master died she quoted “liberty or death if i shall not have one i would have the other” so after her husband which is a free black man didn't want to come with her she took off on her mission alone she changed her name from mitty ross to harriet tubman she took her mother's first name and her husband's last because she was trying to change her identity from being a slave. but the real question is,what …show more content…
To do this they used 3 gunboats and black troops and white officer, Colonel James Montgomery. They went up through the river early in the morning to the rice field that was nearby they stopped the boat and all the supplies left the ship to gather up all the slaves to help their retreat. In a quarter of an hour later slaves were coming from every direction many of them were children and most of the slaves brought animals with like pigs,chickens etc. but a concern was that most of them didn't know what was going on and they were extremely scared most of the spies tried consoling them but it wouldn't work until harriet tubman gathered them up and sang the song of peace with them until they became happy and knew that they were safe until all 800 of the slaves rejoiced and ate and drank until they made it to the north were finally they could be save.
