The chatter in the two 15 passenger vans made the excitement of the High Desert Homeless Services clients evident as they traveled less than 10 miles to Circus Vargas in Hesperia. Just that morning it was unclear if the short trip from what the clients know as reality would be possible due to transportation for such a large group. The shelter has vehicles but unfortunately due to the tight budget constraints these vehicles are not large enough to transport very many of the of the clients.

Circus Vargas officials graciously invited the shelter clients to their show the evening of Friday, April 22nd. Executive Director of High Desert Homeless Services, Jimmy Waldrom was ecstatic knowing that would be a nice getaway for the clients that work very hard daily searching for employment or working in order to get back on their feet. “I have great news and not so good news,” Waldron told Board Members at a Thursday evening meeting. “We got invited to take all the clients to the circus. The only problem is, we have no way to get them there.”

Background checks and drug tests are done on all clients during the intake process to ensure safety to all who reside at the shelter. Adult clients spend around 30 hours per week on job search, job training or working a regular job. Clients are provided with food, clothing and all of their needs during their stay with HDHS.
