Brooklyn, Great insight and informative post! I agree with you that the Zoot suit should be considered an example of both fashion, as well as inequality. What first started out as a symbol of inequality, being worn by Mexican American and African American men, continued to be worn as a fashion statement, in addition to the Teddy Boys, who started wearing the Zoot suit as a show of inequality, but continued to wear them in hopes of not being lost in the midst of other disadvantaged youth, to be remembered and recognized.
