New York City is home to more than half of a million homeless people. Occasionally, a homeless person would walk on the subway from car to car, begging for money, and many train stations would become shelters for those homeless people during the winter. The homeless population has become a serious problem in New York City because the number has risen to all time high since the Great Depression in 1930s. Life as a homeless person is extremely difficult because it is difficult for him or her to find an job, which makes it even more difficult for him or her to fulfill the basic needs. As a response to this problem, there now are people on the subway distributing food and water to those in need.
