Federal Spending and the Homelessness Crisis? In recent years, the budget for national defense in America has skyrocketed. As the U.S. government continues to siphon funds to aid foreign wars happening thousands of miles away, U.S. citizens are left to watch as statistics regarding homelessness rise exponentially. According to a source from the Global Giving organization, it would take approximately 20 billion U.S. dollars to end homelessness. Records state that in 2021, the defense budget was raised to 800.67 billion U.S. dollars (Macrotrends). That is enough money to solve the national homelessness crisis 40 times. If just $5 billion of this hefty budget were reallocated towards providing funds and resources to support homeless individuals …show more content…
