Australian culture is like the Western culture that has been influenced by the geography of the continent, the input of the natives, the British colonization, and the multi-ethnic migration. Australian culture has differed significantly since British settlement. The World Wars greatly changed Australia's sense of identity. The diverse food, lifestyle and cultural practices of immigrants have been absorbed into the Australian culture.
Some of the oldest traditions in Australia are from Australia's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Their ancestors have occupied Australia for between 40,000 and 60,000 years. The Aboriginal Australians have a belief system based on the Dreaming, sometimes called Dreamtime, which refers to a time when ancestral spirits created land and culture and to the knowledge that define individual and community responsibilities and identity.
