In today’s society when somebody needs to know something they will most likely google it. We can always access google, whether it is through our cell phone, laptop, desktop, tablet, etc. People, including myself use google every single day and multiple times throughout the day. Without google I would not know how to find information on anything. In my opinion google has replaced the need of going to the library and checking out books, because with google and the internet you can find the same things online without having to go anywhere. James Gleick wrote an article called How Google Dominates Us and it is about how google is dominating our lives. An example is when performing a search on google, as you are typing google try’s to guess what you are going to search based on your previous searches. That statement is true in the recent era of technology and with technology increasing rapidly it is becoming harder to regulate privacy. Privacy can be defined in several different perspectives hence making it to have the loop holes. A general definition that I would give is to be free from interference by other people. Google and its many applications might violate our privacy? For example everyone is able to have a free email account through google but google allows certain advertisements to appear based on the keywords that are in the person’s email. Another example is when I am on Facebook or any other website on the sides there will be small advertisements based on things that I previously searched through google. Things like this bring up the question, do we have any privacy from google? Should the government be allowed to see your previous google searches to see if you might be connected to a crime or is that a violation of your
