How to Throw a Lacrosse Ball When I was in the fourth grade I tried out for softball and I just could not seem to get the hang of it at all. I used to get so upset that I could not hit the ball or catch it. Because of my frustration, when the season was over I decided to try another sport. I was debating between soccer and lacrosse because many people from Maryland play both. I decided to pick up lacrosse because it seemed that it would be less challenging to me then soccer. While being taught the logistics of the sport I quickly learned that throwing and catching the lacrosse ball are the two main objectives. Today, I am going to teach you how to throw a lacrosse ball yourself. There are a few things involved in learning how to throw a lacrosse ball such as materials, hand placement, and body position and the actual motion of throwing. To play lacrosse you need a stick, a ball, and a partner. I would suggest going to Dicks Sporting Goods or a sports store to buy your materials if you don’t have them. Another option is borrowing from someone who does have the materials. I would recommend finding a partner who knows how to pass and catch the ball so that while your are learning you can learn to improve your skills. If you cant find a partner who can pass with you then I suggest finding a flat or brick wall so that it will project the ball back to you as if it was a partner. This method can also help you acquire the accurate skill. The first step in throwing a lacrosse ball is hand placement of the stick. If the placement of your hands are not in the correct place then the ball won’t go through the air and will hit the ground. Start by placing your dominant hand toward the middle to top of the stick. Take your non -dominant hand and place it on the butt end (bottom of the stick) of the stick covering up the end. The top hand is meant for the accuracy of your throw and the bottom hand is the power source. The next step in learning how to throw a lacrosse ball is the throwing position. The position to throw the ball is similar to throwing a baseball , but with a stick. When positioning your feet , make sure that your feet are shoulder length apart and counterbalanced so that the ball goes directly to the other person or your partner in this circumstance. If your dominant right hand make sure your left foot is in front of your right foot. If you’re dominant left hand make sure that your right foot is in front of your left foot. This is an essential part in throwing the ball because this will allow you to step to launch the ball. Being able to step is vital to make sure that your throw is accurate. At this
