Incivility In The Health Care Field

Incivility, as defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary is a rude or impolite attitude, behavior or act.
After understanding this definition, I believe we are exposed to situations that could be classified as incivility on a daily basis. It sometimes could be done unintentionally. I have witnessed and personally experienced acts of this inappropriate behavior several times through my entire life. I usually don’t like to highlight inappropriate behaviors but agree that we have to bring them to light. When doing this we are helping to eliminate the behavior and educate others.

As a nursing student, I observed many acts of rudeness toward students. I never classified them as incivility, because this concept is completely new for me. Besides it, these acts were so common that were the comments corridor level throughout the campus. These types of actions were one of the reasons for me to start thinking in becoming a nursing instructor. So I could make the difference.
In the health care field in general, this epidemic has also spread. It has been given different names, such as workplace bullying, workplace violence (Hambling et al, 2015). At the end they are all, at larger or smaller scale the same thing. We may call them, acts of incivility towards others.
