Native Americans have been an integral part in the creation of the European colonies. Throughout history, Indians appeared as savages to the Europeans as the Indians received their torture and disease, which caused the Indians to recede as the Europeans colonized the Americas frontier. The Europeans felt the Indians were a threat, although they had aided European colonization. However, some of the entries do not accept or acknowledge the role of the Native Americas, which is written in the perspective of the Indians and the Europeans. In French expeditions to North America, the French were dependent on the relationship of Indian allies and in exchange they were expected to aid the Indians in warfare. Contrarily, the Spanish would wage war, enslave, and disdain the Indians. For example, Spanish colonizers would colonize as they explored the environment of the Pueblo Indians of New Mexico and had great hope for the new land and resources they colonized. The wars and conflicts caused by Spaniards have killed and tortured the Indians, while the survivors were enslaved in order to obtain land and gold. Both the Spanish and the French would enforce the conversion of Catholicism upon the Indians. The Spanish would force conversion, while the French would attempt to convert those who were more willing. French missionaries converted many Indians to Catholicism possibly due to the fact that the French developed a fairly friendly relationship with many Indian culture groups, or tribes. Native peoples even adopted aspects of French culture. Although, in a deeper analysis, the reality and cruelty of the overall Europeans colonization placed disdain on the Indians due to the lack of settlement expansion. This might be due to the oppression of poor whites in the society at the time, therefore punishing the Indians was an illogical and unnecessary option to gain respect and recognition as the lower class. In general, the results have been influentially detrimental on the Indians as the Indians felt betrayed by the Europeans after they became allies with them. This betrayal towards the Indians in the creation of most of North America were events in history that changed the relationship between the Indians and Europeans; instead of alliance it became a competition for survival in North America.
In conclusion, without Indian cooperation, Europeans could not have carried on the lucrative trade in furs and skins.
