Mount Everest is the Earth’s highest mountain and is a deadly goal to many. The book Into Thin Air, by Jon Krakauer, is a personal account of attempting to summit Mount Everest. Jon gives a detailed account of all the trials he faces on the mountain. Climbing Everest is a goal that only some people dream of accomplishing. It becomes their focus in life, and everything leads up to making it to the top of the world. My Everest in life is finding the kind of person that I am and the kind I want to be. Jon Krakauer is a journalist that is asked to climb Everest and write an article about his experience, and others experiences as well. “But boyhood dreams die hard, I discovered, and good sense be damned” (Krakauer 28). Jon takes this opportunity and looks forward to accomplishing his Everest. For me the opportunity to find who I am is given to me in every step forward in my life that I take. During volleyball season I was faced with a lot of criticism and hate from teammates. It left me questioning if what they were saying was true and if I should continue playing the sport that I love. A recent decision that wasn’t easy for me to make was choosing to transfer to St. Thomas More High School. I’m constantly asking if this was the right decision for myself. A challenge in making choices like this, is the input given by others. This decision has mainly received negative feedback from my friends. The negativity given to me was very hard to take, and it made me question if I was making a smart and strong decision for myself. “Hall, however, wouldn’t consider going down without Hansen” (Krakauer 241). Even though this was not a smart decision for Hall, he knew what kind of person he wanted to be. Everyone will have influence and opinion on the choices I make; however, in the end it comes down to who I am and who I want to
