Jackie Robinson proclaimed before his death in 1972, “I was born into a white world and I never had it made.” Jackie Roosevelt Robinson was born January Thirty-First, 1919 in a small farmhouse near Cairo, Georgia. Jackie's parents were named Mallie McGriff and Jerry Robinson. Jerry deserted his family when Jackie was only six. Before Jerry left he was a sharecropper. Jackie had three brothers and one sister, he was the youngest child and got all the attention from his mother. After Jerry Robinson deserted the Robinsons quickly moved to California with Mallies brother, and sister they lived in a small apartment with no hot water and a tub used to wash dishes and for baths. There were eleven people in that one three-room apartment, Jackie shared a room with his mother. The Robinsons only lived there for a certain amount of time, until they moved into a small corner house on pepper street. He excelled the most at football at an early age he developed football skills during recess at school. Jackie was always the first to be picked when captains were making teams having Jackie on the team ensured a win for whatever team he was on. before kids new Jackie's Talent he was bullied because of his black skin color. But when he tried out for sports that all changed. By the end of his first year at school Jackie was the most popular kid at school he had already excelled in football in the fall and was now excelling in baseball in the spring. Jackie had many jobs, as a child, he sold hot dogs outside of the Rose Bowl Stadium. afterward, he would go into the Rose Bowl stadium and check under every seat to see if any money had falling out of people's pockets.
