Jackie Robinson proclaimed before his death in 1972, “I was born into a white world and I never had it made.” Jackie Roosevelt Robinson was born January Thirty-First, 1919 in a small farmhouse near Cairo, Georgia. Jackie's parents were named Mallie McGriff and Jerry Robinson. Jerry deserted his family when Jackie was only six. Before Jerry left he was a sharecropper. Jackie had three brothers and one sister, he was the youngest child and got all the attention from his mother. After Jerry Robinson deserted the Robinsons quickly moved to California with Mallies brother, and sister they lived in a small apartment with no hot water and a tub used to wash dishes and for baths. There were eleven people in that one three-room apartment, Jackie shared a room with his mother. The Robinsons only lived there for a certain amount of time, until they moved into a small corner house on pepper street.
