John Proctor was born on October 9, 1631, in Assington, England. His parents John Proctor Sr. and Martha Harper Proctor heard about the new world and the new opportunities. Sometime between 1633 and 1635, they took the voyage to America. Once the reached America they settled in Ipswich, Massachusetts. John’s father became a successful yeoman farmer, John had a good life in Ipswich, it was the first place where he lived in this new world, the only home he knew was across the ocean and on the other side of the world. He enjoyed living in a wealthy family, although he was modest, he learned to appreciate the simple things in life and he took and he soaked up all the business lessons his father taught him.

Together they had eight children. Elizabeth Proctor, Martha Proctor. In 1666, John and Elizabeth Proctor wanted a new start they wanted to leave the disappointments, sadness, and judgment behind, so at thirty-five They gathered their items and moved to Salem, where they leased a 700-acre farm. While in Salem they had Mary proctor, Martha Proctor, Mary Proctor, John Proctor, Mary Proctor, who survived, and Thorndike. In 1668, John proctor got his license to operate a tavern, which he named the Proctor Tavern. His new business was located on Ipswich Road about a half a mile south of the Salem Village, this business became a great profit for Proctor and made him a wealthy man. In 1672, Proctor's father passed away, he inherited one-third of his father’s estate, which included some houses and land in Ipswich. And Proctor's wife Elizabeth also passed away within the same year, shortly after the birth of Thorndike.
