John Winthrop was a governor in which he was a founder of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. On the voyage with John Winthrop were the Puritans who were on a voyage to the North America in which they were sailing from New England in where they boarded the Arabella. Although throughout the voyage, Winthrop encountered difficulties, saw new ideas as well as brought his thought in the idea of religion.
Winthrop states that he and his community was given commission to build a “city upon a hill” due to the fact that they believed that they were creating a holy commonwealth.
