Judge Danforth: The Real Guilt of Salem Judge Danforth thinks of himself as the wrath of God on the people of Salem. He makes life ending decisions without considering all of the real facts. When real facts are brought up, he dismisses them to keep his reputation. Judge Danforth was a ruthless authority over all the people of Salem. Although Danforth may have been fair in the way where he would hear people out before sentencing them, when it was being proved that all the “witch craft” in Salem was just hysteria created by Abigal Williams he refused to see it because he did not want the truth that he was wrong to be brought to light. Judge Danforth cared more about the integrity and reputation of the court than the people that were being affected by it. Although he abuses his position as judge by punishing anyone who threatens his power; he is dedicated to his cause. Danforth truly cares about the fate of Salem and putting away those who may threaten Salem’s people. Danforth’s motivation as Judge in the Salem witchcraft trials is his faith in God and the standards of religion and law. Although he rules with his faith in a very aggressive and unforgiving way he still makes his decisions for what he believes in and he does not take anyone else’s belief over his own that crimes against the people of Salem are crimes against god as well as crimes against god are those against Salem. Danforth is one of the most respected people in Salem because of his responsibility to uphold the law for the people. If Danforth showed some mercy in his cause of correcting Salem of his witches he may have even been a respected protector over Salem and its
