Lies can sometimes get you pretty far, but they all come to an end. Either you get caught or they just simply stop working. Fame, wealth, and a lot more things could potentially get accomplished with lies. Lying could always be seen as a shortcut or a way to get out of a problem, but, it’s not always the best. Characters in the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald and the film Chicago directed by Rob Marshall live lives in the 1920’s full of untruthful stories, they were willing to lie about almost anything. In the novel The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby lives as a mysteriously rich character, nobody really knows his true identity, but in order for him to achieve such great wealth he had to hide the truth. Even after he’s achieved his wealth he hides a relationship with Daisy Buchanan. In the film Chicago, Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly use their lawyer Billy Flynn to convince everyone that they aren’t guilty of murder using lies. All of these falsifying altered their entire lives. After everything, every lie told was unveiled and the truth was exposed.

Chicago and The Great Gatsby have an abundant amount of examples of corruption. The government is even in on this, you could easily pay off a police officer or do what Gatsby did. Do a favor for the sheriff and now he has a pass to do anything he wants without going to jail. The pass he has is white, meaning purity so he escape problems with like if he was pure. If police officers are willing to be corrupt like this without getting anything out of it, if you offer sex to a doctor so he fake a pregnancy, of course he would agree to do it.
