The motion of a pendulum is a classic example of mechanical energy conservation. A pendulum consists of a mass (known as a bob) attached by a string to a pivot point. As the pendulum moves it sweeps out a circular arc, moving back and forth in a periodic fashion. Neglecting air resistance (which would indeed be small for an aerodynamically shaped bob), there are only two forces acting upon the pendulum bob. One force is gravity. The force of gravity acts in a downward direction and does work upon the pendulum bob. However, gravity is an internal force (or conservative force) and thus does not serve to change the total amount of mechanical energy of the bob. The other force acting upon the bob is the force of tension. Tension is an external force and if it did do work upon the pendulum bob it would indeed serve to change the total mechanical energy of the bob. However, the force of tension does not do work since it always acts in a direction perpendicular to the motion of the bob. At all points in the trajectory of the pendulum bob, the angle between the force of tension and its direction of motion is 90 degrees. Thus, the force of tension does not do work upon the bob. Since there are no external forces doing work, the total mechanical energy of the pendulum bob is conserved. Observe a pendulum. (you can make one with a string and a small weight). Observe that the falling motion of the bob is accompanied by an increase in speed. As the bob loses height, it gains speed, yet
I have had several odd experiences as I have been bowling this semester. My father and I go bowling every Sunday night usually at Poway Fun Bowl, which is located just up the 15 for about 20 min. Some nights we even go on Tuesday depending on his work schedule. It so happens to be a Tuesday is a special where pitchers of beer are only 3 dollars and there is a special deal on shoes and lanes as well. One night we were bowling and couldn’t help but to notice the lane

The Wal-Mart Experience
– March 31, 2013 |
Recognized across the United States as a monopoly Wal-Mart dominates as the retail market with a far advantage. Well known for their “roll back” prices and friendly service Wal-Mart is the general public’s one stop shop for all your shopping needs. Wal-Mart has truly found their success in the American market place as a retail giant. Almost all Americans have shopped in Wal-Mart once in their lives and are usually
While fast food and home cooked meals can both be very tempting, the healthiest way to eat is by preparing your own food at home. There are many reasons that support this theory, but here is a few to name. Fast food restaurants seem to be more affordable than buying groceries. Groceries can be affordable if people shop smarter by taking advantage of coupons. Home cooked meals take more time to prepare while restaurant food is convenient and quickly available. Is the food not more flavorful

Observations and practice of visual communication and design in the theatre, exemplified through the development of an original piece called Th' Burning.
The process of conceiving and developing a new production, Th' Burning, which is set in the historical context of the Freedom Rides and the Anniston bus burning of 1961, encompasses the meat of this paper. The play was created as a tribute to the Freedom Riders and to the memory of civil rights

You have nothing to worry about if your perfect. This is the befief that some parents instill in theirs and their children’s mind. It is the belief that perfection brings about material possesions, a life of benefits, and
When you start to look at your daily life in a sociological perspective, it opens your eyes to what is really going on in society today. When I first started changing my views, I watched the actions of others a little more closely using a micro-level orientation. Listening more to the way people talk and looking at the actions people choose, you start to hear how people blame themselves for their own life problems. Such as being stuck with a job they would rather not have, but have no choice
