A lot of communities have gone locavoric. The locavore movement is an organization in communities where the food like vegetables and fruits are grown locally in farms. It would be beneficial for a community to be a part of the locavore movement because local food is fresher, healthier, and better tasting. One reason a community should become a locavoric one is because locally grown food’s fresher than store bought food. When buying food in a supermarket, theres no telling how long that good has been sitting on the shelf. “While produce that is purchased in the supermarket has been in transit for days or weeks, produce that you purchase at your local farmer’s market has (often) been picked within 24 hours of your purchase” (Source A). Locally grown fruits and vegetables are always freshly picked. “... the increasing reliance on food shipped halfway around the world” (Source E). Fresh food is healthier for you than supermarket food because these fresh products always get to reach their peak ripeness. “Fruits and vegetables that travel shorter distances are therefore likely to be closer to a maximum of nutrition” (Source B). However, that is not the only reason as to why local food is healthier for you. “Morbach took a look at the irrigation spigots (in a local walmart) and found that they were black with dirt” (NCB News Janice Lieberman). Supermarkets are known to recycle the water they use to mist their fruits and veggies sitting on the shelves. So, in all reality, the products are just getting moistened with dirty, muddy water. Choose wisely and dont eat the products from grocery store
