Long-standing discrimination against women in college athletics must stop because it is not fair for women athletes who play the same sport as men do and do just as well or even better in there sports.
First, I would want to tell you about Title IX. Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 is the federal law prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sex in education programs, including sports programs, by any school receiving federal financial assistance. Title IX has been the primary vehicle for asserting the right of women and girls to equal opportunity in high school and college athletics and has played a vital role in opening competitive sports to female athletes over the last forty-four years. I would like to list some of the ways women in college athletics are discriminated. In college sports, most of the money goes towards men sports for example football, soccer, and basketball because they think that they deserve it more and earn more at games and concession stands then women do at their events, but it's not true they make a lot of money to and should split the money evenly between the sports. Women also don’t get awarded as many scholarships as men do in sports because there are more scholarships offered for men and their sports. Men’s teams usually receive more recognition, more fans, and overall better gear just because they are boys even though they spend the same amount of time, effort, and energy practicing and working on their own sport as women do. Third, how men and women are athletically different. Women have more body fat than men due to higher estrogen levels. We are also less muscular but our joints are more flexible, which gives us a greater range of motion, also an advantage in sports such as gymnastics. The wider female pelvis also affects the alignment and movement of the extremities. Testosterone enables men to develop larger skeletal muscles as well as larger hearts. Men also have larger Type 2 muscle fibers, which generate power, strength, and
