RESEARCH QUESTION: WHY IS THE INCIDENCE RATE OF TUBERCULOSIS MUCH HIGHER AMONG ABORIGONAL PEOPLES THAN CANADIAN-BORN NON-ABORIGONALS?
The significant person that I chose that shaped Canada is Louis Riel. I chose Louis Riel because he had a very significant role in shaping and creating what is now known as Canada. According to Stanley, Louis Riel was the leader of the Metis and also the founder of the province Manitoba (2016). Riels contribution to Canada was leading the metis and taking down the Canadian government for what they knew as their rights and freedom. Bustmed explains that the Red River Rebellion was when Rupert’s Land and The Hudson’s Bay Company was given to the rest of Canada. This Park is located “North of Saskatchewan River near Duck Lake (Saskatchewan), and was established in 1810 as a Hudson’s Bay Company fur trade and provision post” (Allen, 2013). According to Fort Carlton has many significances to Aboriginal peoples. The fort was used for a meat provisioning post for making bison meat that was traded from the First Nations. The post was also used as a transportation hub for where they would transfer the goods across land. Lastly, the post was used as a place for where the First Nations and the Government negotiated treaty six. Unfortunately, after Louis Riel took control over the metis, the Canadian Government feared the safety and the fort was abandoned. During the evacuation, “a lamp was knocked over, which started a fire that burnt down the fort. After the conflict, the HBC did not rebuild the post” (Government of Sskatchewan, n.d.). To this day this historic park still has significance. Today, you are able to visit this historic park and get a tour of the buildings, and tipis and get a sense of what life was like in this time period (Government of Saskatchewan,
