Love can be a very powerful thing. It has power over every human being, it doesn't matter who they are, where they're from, or their beliefs, love is part of everyone's life, everyone loves someone or something. Some people see love as a weakness and some as a strength, the truth is, it can be both, love can easily destroy as it can give unending happiness. In today's society the word love is sub estimated. When a person actually loves someone, that individual is capable of doing anything for them, giving up their happiness for theirs or even their lives. Ultimately love is not an easy thing to explain. Manette, the influence that love has on him is very important, after he met his daughter obviously the love he has for her is the biggest love there is, parents love their children more than themselves or their spouses. Dr. Manette allowed Lucie to marry Darnay which is an act of selflessness. He "let her go" in a sense. When he found out about who Darnay really is he kept himself from seeking revenge for Lucie's sake. Darnay's family ruined his life, they took his freedom away and let him miss out on his daughters childhood, and even though he had the power to end Darnay he decided to save him "Although Darnay and Manette learn to respect and love each other, their goodwill is repeatedly subverted by events" (Hutter 43). His daughters happiness is way more important than revenge.
