Written Outline for my group

Backround: This group is a stress management group. It is made up of collage students of all ages, different races, males and females. I basically wish everyone to play themselves. This is the 3rd group meeting out of 8 group meetings. At the last meeting we were just starting to feel comfortable with each other. We discussed how much stress and pressure we are all under at this point in the semester. Today at this meeting we will continue talking about the pressure and the stress we are all under but will shift to stress management and how we deal with the stress in our lives.
Introduction:
Hi and Welcome back everyone, I am glad that you al have found the time to squeeze in this group, I know that it is a very busy time for all of us and that is why this group is here to help. I am Heather Garcia, the counselor here at WCTC. I have been running this group for the past 5 semesters now. It has become a very valuable tool for students who are in need of stress relief during the ending of a busy semester. This is our 3rd time meeting of 8. And I would like to remind you, that out of respect for all of the members, we need to adhere to the confidentiality rules and forms that you all have signed off on. What is said here, stays here. Last group we discussed how much stress and pressure that we are all under right now at the close of the semester. Today I’d like to start with a quick round on how much stress everyone is under right now. You can state low-medium or high.
Transitional Statement: Thank you, it sounds like everyone has had quite a bit more stress this week since last week.
What I’d like to focus on is what is causing all the different stresses in our lives.
Move onto Activity: I’d like to start out by doing an activity. I’d like you all to take a few minutes filling this out; I want you to write on this “PLATE” what you all have on your plate. After a few minutes, we will come back together as a group and discuss what is on everyone’s plate. Main Part of the group: I want to talk about what kind of stress everyone is having right now at the end of the semester. I want to shift the topic about midway through to what are these students doing to get relief from stress. Processing Questions: Can you tell me what you are thinking? What I hear you saying….. In other words… Have others dealt with similar situations? I see you nodding at what was said. Do you agree? Who else has had similar feelings? Can you tell me more about …..? Ok, I hear that we all have a lot of things going on. Has anyone thought about different ways to relieve the stress?
