In the year 2013, 10,076 people died due to drunk driving, the total deaths per year from prescription drug overdose are from 14,000-27,000, and Illegal drug overdose deaths go from 3,800-5,200. Statistics show that the cause of deaths for prescription drugs is 45% and street drugs (amphetamine, heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine) combined 39%, where prescription drugs seem to have a higher death rate. Marijuana, also known as cannabis, has been used for over 10,000 years, there has never been any reports of any death’s. People say marijuana is addictive, and it causes individuals to try harder drugs, but truthfully marijuana is the drug sellers use to convince you to try harder drugs since it is not addictive. It is considered a very controversial topic today. Even though it has been highly discriminated in the past, and even now in the future, genuine facts about marijuana are ultimately coming out. The acceptable use of it in society today is only for medicinal purposes. Prehistoric physicians assorted the plant into medicines or teas as pain relievers and other minor illnesses. It was banned in more than 20 states by the 1930s, in 1970 it was placed in Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act because it had no known use for medicine, and in the 1950s the Narcotics Control Act and the Boggs Act began to give penalties for the possession of marijuana. However, today, twenty-nine states have decriminalized it, and ten are contemplating bills to legalize it. Currently, the states with the topmost possession restrictions are Oregon, California, Washington, and New Mexico.
