When comparing an individual to the mass of the greater good, the needs of a community should always be placed above the interests and rights of an individual. People must take action to improve and protect the welfare of the community. There are many ways someone can take action against unjust causes or procedures. In the past, it is clear that acts such as protesting, advocating for change, establishing organizations, and raising awareness, have been very effective. In some situations, it might require someone to do the wrong thing, like breaking the law in an effort to make a change. While King is best known for his advocacy of nonviolent resistance, King's actions clearly illustrate that he was willing to confront unjust laws and systems with the use of direct civil disobedience, even if it meant facing legal consequences. This is shown when King once remarked, “Ordinarily, a person leaving a courtroom with a conviction behind him would wear a somber face, but I left with a smile. I knew that I was a convicted criminal, but I was proud of my crime." Despite the personal risks and hardships he faced, King remained persistent in his pursuit of justice. While inspiring countless others to join him in his fight for civil rights. His willingness to endure imprisonment for the cause shows the importance of doing so. By embracing civil disobedience as a way of protest, King not only helped break apart legal barriers to ensure equality but also sparked a broader movement for social justice that continues in the world around us
