Mary Surratt should not have been executed but only put in jail. She is guilty because she was in contact with the conspirators and John Wilkes Booth. But she is innocent enough just to be put in prison because her innocence was defended by friends, priests, conspirators, and herself. Mary Surratt’s innocence was defended by multiple people. In source one it states “Surratt was defended by several priests and friends.” This supports my claim because it says directly in the text her innocence was defended by priests and friends.
