According to society men are supposed to be tough and strong in situations that a women can be weak. They are supposed to be dominant and be in complete control of their emotions (Luke). Men are supposed to be the ones that tell their wife that everything will be okay in moments of despair and loss. In situations like these men “must detach themselves from their emotions” as Zeilinger states and hold back their own tears (Zeilinger 539). Being tough and strong is a part of masculinity. The idea of masculinity involves exactly that, being tough or pretending to be tougher than other guys.
