The limitations include not examining the role that the mass incarceration of African-American men has had on the lived experiences and socioeconomic opportunities of African-American women. While the study provides insight into the role poverty plays in creating a context of insecurity for African-American women it does not provide enough insight into the role that mass incarceration has played in facilitating poverty among African- American women. The population being studied is a limitation within itself because of the fact that we are interviewing African-American individuals who are incarcerated that have had the same partner for at least five years while being incarcerated. Additionally, by observing ten people in each of the four states, our findings may not be representative of the nation as a whole, decreasing the validity of the central themes of poverty and mass incarceration. …show more content…
