Home delivered meals in most communities are provided by private nonprofit agencies or programs funded under the Older American Act. There is over more than one home delivered services that deliver meals to different target populations in the country. Meals on Wheels is perhaps the most recognized home-delivered meal program in the country for people sixty and older that are homebound. Meals on Wheels is a program that delivers meals to individuals at home who are unable to purchase or prepare their own meals. The name Meal on Wheels is often generically used to refer to home-delivered meal programs, but not all are actually named Meal on Wheels

Old labels used these two categories: food insecurity without hunger and food insecurity with hunger. The new labels now use low food security and very low food security. Low food security is reduced quality of food. A description of low food insecurity in the household is not having the proper nutrients in food (Dictionary). The food has reports of reduced quality, variety, or desirability in the diet. However, there is little or no indication of reduced food intake. Next is very low food security. Very low food insecurity is when there is multiple indications of not having the proper nutrients in food (Dictionary). A description of very low food insecurity is multiple reports of disrupted eating patterns and reduced food intake. Having low food insecurity can have very negative health consequences. At Tabitha, they have a Meals on Wheels. The Tabitha Meals on Wheels began in 1967. This was the first service in Lincoln, Nebraska. Today, Tabitha serves a noon meal to more than 550 clients for 365 days a year in Lincoln, Nebraska. Tabitha is unlike any Meals on Wheel in the country. They are different from many other Meals on Wheels because they continue to say yes to anyone who is in need, regardless of the different circumstances or resources. While many other programs have capped out, Tabitha has not. Even with their 30% growth rate in the last 5 years, they continue to let people into the program.
