Mob mentality is an action by a group that influences others to join in and act in ways that are abnormal to their individual behaviors. In a large crowd, no matter the circumstances, everyone is susceptible to this, usually extreme, pressure. Although it isn’t always a direct persuasion, the individual may subconsciously feel it is. In mob mentality, the individual loses their self-awareness (deindividuation) and don’t fully comprehend that they will be held responsible for their actions. Certain situations can trigger a group to act in ways they wouldn’t on their own. Situations such as scarce resources, lacking family bonds, and strong thoughts and emotions towards an issue can form mob mentality. One of the jobs was to build a stage (to work on) around a containment area for painting and sand blasting. The stage was around 80 feet tall with a circumference of about 100 feet. By the entrance of the containment area, two robins had built a nest and laid eggs. When the job was completed, the boss told the workers to dismantle the stage. A few employees got together and refused to do the job because of the robin’s nest and eggs. The boss said he didn’t care and ordered them to tear the staging down. As word got around, more and more workers joined in and refused to take down the staging. After several failed attempts of getting the workers to follow his instructions, the boss compromised and told them to tear all the staging down except for where the nest was. The workers agreed and tore the last of the stage once the eggs hatched and flew
